Camp
"My friend did camp in 2001 and had decided to return for another year and asked if I would join her. As I wasn’t enjoying my office job, I decided to give it a go. I’d always wanted to work abroad but my mum (quite rightly) wasn’t happy about my desire to work in a bar in Tenerife so was more than happy for me to take this opportunity with an organised company.
One day we were meant to have a big summer carnival with fair games and a dunk tank etc. Over night it poured with rain so this wasn’t going to be possible so instead we dug up the sports field and had a huge mug fight instead followed by a water fight down by the lake to clean off.
I have made some of my best friends through working at summer camp. Friends who I have shared life experiences with such as weddings and children. I doubt I ever would have gone to America if I wasn’t working at the camp and I have now visited many times to visit the friends I made.
I'd say do it to anybody considering it! Although you will be nervous, you will look back at this experience as one of the best of your life, I guarantee it.
Camp friends are the greatest friends ever - from the outside looking in, you can’t understand it. From the inside looking out, you can’t explain it. I still speak to the majority of them and now with the powers of social media its even easier.
Both years i went travelling after camp. I made full use of the visa and stayed for its full time."
