Camp Overview
Camp Akeela is a coed overnight summer camp in Vermont for children ages 9 - 16. Many of our campers have Asperger’s Syndrome or a similar autism spectrum profile. Others are undiagnosed but described as “quirky.” All are very bright, charming, well behaved adolescents who struggle to connect with their peers. Our community gives campers a place to thrive with a peer group and program designed intentionally for them. Camp Akeela is very similar to most traditional New England summer camps in regards to activities, trip offerings, and a typical daily schedule. It is not a therapeutic or "social skills" camp. Akeela is structured in a way that helps campers be more successful, with a routine oriented schedule and a caring staff that provides in-the-moment social guidance and facilitation.

Staff Time Off
We believe that well rested staff is imperative to our mission at camp! Each staff member has 1-2 hours off during the day on daily basis, and every other night off starting at 9pm. Each staff member also has one full day off each week of camp. Curfew on nights and days off is 12:30am.
Staff Qualities
We are looking for staff who are motivated and excited to work with our unique population of campers. Most staff have a background or are pursuing degrees in education, psychology, social work, or other fields in youth development. Prior experience with children and teens on the spectrum is preferred, but not required.
Staff who thrive at Akeela are flexible, resilient, creative, problem solvers, and have a passion for youth development.
