Camp Overview
Camp Fire Heart of Iowa provides a variety of day and residential programs for boys and girls in Kindergarten through high school. Our programs use fun programming to help youth learn about outdoor education and recreation. In these programs, staff are given the opportunity to specialize in a variety of camp skills, and help youth to learn and excel in these different areas. We also offer a specialty program that focuses on educational programming and literacy for lower income youth. All of our programs are all inclusive and youth centered! Young people want to shape the world. Camp Fire provides them the opportunity to find their spark, lift their voice, and discover who they are. In Camp Fire, it begins now!

Hmm... What's your role?
Staff Time Off
All staff get at least 24 hrs off each weekend. Monday through Friday, staff will be traveling from our resident camp to the day camp program location. During resident camp sessions counselors will be required to stay in cabins with campers at night and work day camp locations during the day. While resident camp is in session, the 30-45 min travel time each way, will be an additional source of time off.
Staff Qualities
Counselors should be positive role models for all campers and willing to play/get dirty/have fun with campers. They should be flexible, willing to work long days outside in the heat of the summer and keep a positive attitude. We also look for staff with previous outdoor experience (or at minimal, an interest); whether it be hiking, camping, orienteering, and leading nature lessons, etc.
