Camp Overview

Camp Mountain Chai is a Jewish residential camp located in the mountains of the San Bernardino National Forest. We help campers gain personal independence, build self-confidence, make new friends and of course, have fun!

Our program features a 40 foot climbing tower, high and low ropes course, nature, sports, ceramics, arts and crafts, theater, dance, archery, swimming , canoeing, fishing, photography, and much more. Our kitchen caters to most common dietary needs. Cabins are heated and include bathrooms and showers. We offer 4 sessions (13 days each) for campers during the summer.

Staff Time Off

Staff will have an hour off during the day. Camp provides a staff lounge that includes free internet and computer use. This is a space for staff to relax, spend time off, watch TV, use the internet, and spend time with friends.

Staff will receive a day off each week. Staff may sleep out of camp on days off. If staff choose to sleep in camp on days off, they must abide by camp curfew and camp policies.

You may be responsible for being Shmira (On Duty) in the evening 2-3 times per week for your cabin, or the cabin you are assigned to. Otherwise, staff have the evenings off and have an evening curfew and must sign-in by 12:00am. Staff are provided snack every evening as well as a variety of programs planned for staff at camp throughout the summer. Staff can expect a range of events, from games, special snacks, staff outings during intersession, campfires, movies, and more.

Staff Qualities

Our staff are made up of caring individuals dedicated to making each camper’s experience positive and meaningful. We are looking for staff who are sincerely dedicated to creating the best summer possible for a fantastic group of children. The best staff are compassionate, enthusiastic, good listeners, patient, nurturing, and trustworthy. We look for staff who are team players with leadership skills, easy-going, and know how to have fun.

We welcome individuals of all faiths to work at Camp Mountain Chai. With 85 staff in the summer, we hire staff from all over the world and work hard during staff training to create a connected, cohesive and bonded group. Staff will meet people from around the world and make friends that will last a lifetime.

We want staff who want the opportunity to be a role model and mentor our campers. Working in our camp environment will strengthen your leadership, teamwork and communication skills. Once again, we are proud to be one of the top Jewish overnight camps in North America in regards to staff satisfaction, appreciation, training and feeling supported from start to finish.
