Camp Overview
Camp Sangamon is half of a brother/sister camp duo in Central Vermont. We are different from most camps in that choice and self determination for our campers guides everything we do. Very little is required in terms of activities- kids can choose what they do, and if they change their minds they can move on. We believe that kids learning to make their own choices is essential to their growth as human beings, and camp's goal is to provide safety, exciting options for them each and every day. We are a small, informal, family-style camp. No dress code beyond prohibiting alcohol, tobacco, or drug references on clothing, and no prohibition on body decorations. If you join us you will join a group of lifelong friends who feel like family. Regular reunions around the world keep us all in touch, and very few staff members stay only one year with us.
Do you have the skills they're looking for?

Staff Time Off
Counselors have free time each day as well as having specific time off away from camp.
Days off run from 11:45 AM-8:30 AM the following day or 4:30 PM to 12:30 PM the following day. There is one day off per week.
Additionally, counselors have two nights off each week beginning at 9:30 PM and ending at 2:00 AM.
Staff Qualities
Camp Sangamon looks for staff members who are unabashedly enthusiastic about life and community. Prior work with kids is not a requirement, but a love of people is. We value flexibility in skills, an believe that one of the best ways to keep people engaged and happy is to have them work in different areas throughout the summer. All of our staff should plan to be physically active enough to go on a hike or two.
All should recognize that in addition to their full-time activity work they will be expect to share their other skills and talents with the community. No skill is too offbeat for Camp- we've had mimes, whip-crackers, clowns! It's important to us that our counselors are willing to abandon their attachment to dignity for significant periods of time, and participate in all manner of foolishness. We can accommodate many special diets, and we train staff in many skill areas.
