Camp St. Albans is run by the Girl Scouts of Western Washington. Our mission states that Girl Scouting builds girls* of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Girl Scouts of Western Washington uses the term girl inclusively to speak to everyone who identifies with the Girl Scout experience, which includes cisgender girls, gender-expansive youth, transgender youth, non-binary youth, gender nonconforming youth, and genderqueer youth. Our staff is a reflection of our camper community-so if you identify with the girl experience you are welcome at camp!

Our camp is full of magic and whimsy! Camp St. Albans covers 414 wooded acres with over five miles of trails, all surrounding beautiful Lake Devereaux. Our property is known for our unique Viking Boats and the gnomes that inhabit the camp. Our site primarily focuses on traditional camp activities such as arts and crafts, archery, swimming, and boating. Campers can choose from a variety of creative programs including outdoor survival skills, space discovery, and woodworking. Each week we choose a different theme to have fun with-in the past we’ve had Barbie, Wild West, and Fairytale! *Please note that while our property video features horses, we currently do not have any horseback riding programs.

Our camp is rustic. Staff are assigned to live in a different unit each week to supervise 8-18 campers. A unit is a grouping of cabins where campers live. In this unit, staff have their own cabin separate from campers. Cabins vary from open-air style to platform tents. These cabins do not have electricity and are separate from bathrooms, which are outhouses (or pit toilets). We have two shower houses on camp with showers and flushing toilets, one for campers and one for staff.

We are one hour away from Seattle, home of the infamous Pike Place Market and Space Nettle. Seattle has tons of shopping, museums, and sports stadiums. Our international staff love to go see a Seattle Mariner’s baseball game! If you like nature, we close to two national parks, Olympic National Park and Mt. Rainier National Park that offer beautiful hikes and lakes. The beach is also 2 hours from camp if you want to really get away!

We have a new group of campers each week. Our campers arrive on Sunday afternoons and depart on Friday afternoons. Staff members have a weekend break from Friday evening to Sunday morning. When camp is in session, staff also get a 2 hour break during each full day (Monday-Thursday).

Staff Time Off

Staff are welcome to stay on camp over the weekend break, and use the staff lounge to watch movies and relax. Staff are provided with meals from Sunday lunch to Friday lunch. All other meals are on their own, but staff can use the kitchen in our staff lounge to store and cook food. We do weekly trips into town to the grocery store on Friday evenings for staff to buy food. On top of weekly trips into town on Friday evenings, we occasionally offer staff trips to local attractions that staff can sign up for with transportation free of cost (attraction costs are on staff to cover). They may include a trip to Mt. Rainier, the water park, the zoo, or the coast.

We have a newly renovated staff lounge with a shower house, full kitchen, lounge area, Wi-Fi, and good cell service so you can contact home.

Staff Qualities

We are looking for staff who are passionate about guiding youth in their outdoor adventures! Join our welcoming community for a summer of memories, friendships and personal growth. We seek staff who have skills in communication, conflict resolution, flexibility, safety, feedback, and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Counselor’s main responsibilities in the evening are getting their campers to bed by an age-appropriate time. After campers go to bed, counselors may meet briefly to review the next day’s schedule before they go to sleep themselves.
