Camp Overview
Children and adults with and without disabilities enjoy all Easterseals Iowa Camp Sunnyside has to offer including canoeing, an animal farm, horseback riding, archery, nature trails, the Variety Club Rec Center, an accessible indoor pool and the Meredith Tree House. At night campers sleep in new, air conditioned lodges. Sessions are held at Camp Sunnyside for campers age four and older. Week-long and day camps are offered during the summer.
Camp Descriptions
Resident Camp: Adult: Ages 18 & Up, Youth: Ages 4-17
Clients will spend their days having fun swimming, horseback riding, doing arts and crafts and much, much more. At night, clients will reside in our air conditioned cabins or spend the evening camping out under the stars. All resident camp sessions are structured around weekly themes. Check in is Sunday afternoon between 2:00p.m - 4:00p.m. Check out is Friday between 2:00p.m - 3:00p.m.
Supported Day Camp: Ages 6-12
Easterseals Iowa Summer Supported Day Camp is designed to provide all the fun of daily camp activities while providing parents and caregivers a break. The program is a day program but provides higher ratios of supervision and skilled personal care. This is primarily a waiver and county funded program; private pay is also accepted. Hours are Monday through Friday 8:00a.m - 5:00p.m. Extended hours are available for this program.
Bridge Camp: Ages 6-14
This day camp is designed for children who can be supported in a traditional Bridge Camp ratio with 1:8 supervision. The program focuses on the traditional activities of camp, and has activities structured around becoming a good role model and a helpful friend to peers with disabilities. This camp has designated counselors and campers spend half of their time with Supported Day Camp clients and half of their time developing and participating in activities designed to strengthen skills as young leaders. This camp is private pay only; this is not a waiver program. Hours are Monday through Friday 8:00a.m - 5:00p.m. Extended hours are available for this program
Counselor In Training (CIT): Ages 13-18
Counselor in Training Applicants must have previously attended Camp Sunnyside as a camper to apply and will be subject to an interview. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00a.m - 5:00p.m.

Staff Time Off
Team members are required to stay on site from approximately 10 am on Sundays to 6 pm on Fridays. Team members gets a two hour break each day (Monday-Thursday). Friday night-Sunday morning is their own time to go out into the city and explore the culture.
