Camp Overview

Founded in 1959, Camp Walden is a family-owned, traditional summer camp in beautiful Northern Michigan. Our campers range in age from 7 to 16 and come from all of the United States as well as from abroad. Kids create individual activity schedules from a list of 50-plus options: land and water sports, visual and performing arts, English-saddle horseback riding, wilderness and nature skills, and media, such as creative writing, podcasting and videography. Living and learning together creates a neighborhood-like atmosphere, where counselors and children share in the fun, spirit and growth of a magical summer experience.

Staff Time Off

Counselors work four out of five activity periods on a typical day (five days a week). They receive one 28-hour day off each week (e.g. 7 p.m. Friday night to 11 p.m. Saturday). Along with their co-counselors, they rotate daily cabin coverage during Rest Hour (after lunch from 1:30-2:30), Evening Program (from 8-10 p.m.), and Cover (returning to the cabin by 12:15 a.m. for the night).

Staff Qualities

We are looking for staff who enjoy working with children, who are happy working as a part of a team but also ready to be creative and lead out. We want our counselors to be empathic, patient, fun and/or funny and accepting of different cultures and beliefs. Counselors will also need to come with a skill/s where they are comfortable leading and/or assisting.
