Camp Overview

At Falling Creek, we exist to shepherd the journey of personal growth through love and adventure. We believe that the boys we serve are best able to maximize their potential through productive excitement, community, and communion with the natural world, which we provide with our world-class staff and stunning 890 acre campus. Falling Creek is nestled into a mountaintop cove in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, where boys are unplugged and allowed to be themselves for ten idyllic weeks every summer. In addition to a focus on the personal growth of our campers, we also purposefully cultivate the culture of camp to be a rewarding experience for our staff. We provide competitive pay and professional development, while also intentionally facilitating the physical, mental, spiritual, and social growth of our counselors by nurturing both soft and hard skills. Falling Creek was founded in 1969 as an independent Christian camp for boys. Over the last 50+ years, we’ve continued to upgrade our facilities and programs while remaining in touch with the traditions that a long-standing summer camp has to offer. Our program thus balances allotting time for reflection in cabin discussions and group gatherings, providing outlets for energy with all-camp games and evening programs, and guiding skill and character development with structured activity lessons. We focus closely on both skill and character development. This programmatic depth allows us to address the holistic education of both our campers and our staff.

Staff Time Off

Each week you’ll receive a scheduled time-off period of 38.5 hours at once. This time-off period will begin at 9:30pm on the first day, allow you to be off for a full 24 hours the next day, and require you to return at noon the following day. Staff are also able to take an hour of “self-care time” each day at camp, where you are free to read, workout, nap, or do anything you need to “recharge your batteries” daily. Everyone gets the same amount of time off; the schedule is based on your position and role at camp. Being well-rested and refreshed is a must, so we require you to leave camp for part of your time off! (During session changeover weeks, this schedule is altered slightly.)

Staff Qualities

At Falling Creek, we recruit as wide a variety of personalities as possible. With as many campers as we have, our boys resonate uniquely with counselors, whatever identity they bring to the mountain. That being said, there are certain qualities that are more conducive to success over the course of the entire season. Chief amongst these are perhaps flexibility and work ethic. It is hard to predict the exact course of a day, but our staff should be engaged and creative enough to roll with whatever challenge might come their way. We also like people who are team players. Unselfishness is what we call “the spirit of Falling Creek” and one must be able to prioritize the needs of our community over themselves.
