Camp Overview

At Fleur de Lis Camp, we empower girls to be the people they want to be now and in the future. Our 90-year old summer camp is a magical place where girls and adults gather together to learn and grow, laugh and play, explore and create, and live surrounded by nature. Our community is small by intention (100 girls and 45 staff) so that girls of all ages can become friends and each staff member is able to really know their campers.

Our staff come from all over the country and the world to share their skills, experience and desire to help girls thrive at camp. Most of the staff will live with campers of a specific age (8-15 years old) and are responsible for creating a supportive, caring and fun environment. Additionally, staff will instruct in one of three major activity areas – Waterfront (swimming, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, water ski, paddle boarding), Land (tennis, landsports, archery, riflery, nature, campcraft) or Arts (ceramics, stained glass, crafts, theater, fabric arts).

Working at camp is one of the best jobs you could ever have. You will practice daily some of the most sought-after life and work skills - teamwork, flexibility and adaptability, initiative and self-direction, effective communication, problem-solving, leadership and responsibility. You will also have the opportunity to make lasting friendships, and most importantly you will help girls discover and become their best selves.

Staff Time Off

Staff will have one day (6am-5:45pm) off a week; a night off (6pm-midnight) each week. On other days there is a 1 hour block of time that is free as well as other small chunks of time (15 min or 30 min here & there) these are scheduled based on the needs of the activity schedule and camper supervision. Once over the summer staff receive a "48" hour block of time off from Friday 6pm-Sunday 6pm.

Staff Qualities

Successful international Fleur de Lis staff choose FDL as a first choice as much as FDL chooses them for their specific skill set and personality. Being a counselor at camp is one of the best jobs you can have and it can be challenging at times because it requires you to be adaptable to your girls needs, be flexible and enthusiastic even when you may be tired, be a problem-solver and a cheerleader for your campers, and be a supportive team player with your fellow counselors. Successful staff are excited about this opportunity, willing to learn and try new things, embrace the camp culture, and be willing to give of yourself as you support girls in discovering their best selves. As an all-girls camp, successful staff understand the importance and power of relationships and relationship building and not only want to walk away with great friendships themselves, but are willing to help campers in doing the same. Staff are willing to try almost anything, ask questions, get involved and be silly while remembering that risk management and safety is paramount. Staff Training begins with a week of specialized training including lifeguard training so most of our staff are trained as lifeguards.
