Camp Overview
Established in 1948 exclusively for Glenwood students, Camp Getschow gives children the opportunity to develop or enhance their outdoor camping and recreational interests, experiences and abilities in a safe, fun and structured environment. Camp Getschow is located on 180 heavily wooded acres on Blaisdell Lake in Loretta, Wisconsin, in the Chequamegon National Forest. Camp facilities include 10 cabins, a dining hall, gymnasium, lodge, health center, staff and guest quarters, laundry, storage and maintenance buildings. The camp program teaches students skills in archery, sailing, canoeing, fishing, boating, and swimming, plus evening activities that promote teamwork and sportsmanship. A key component of the camp is learning or improving on these skills, and demonstrating their mastery in events at the end of each session. Staff is trained in lifeguarding, teaching social skills, and promoting positive behavior for the campers. Campers receive various awards, trophies and recognition for their effort, improvement, sportsmanship and performance.

Hmm... What's your role?
Staff Time Off
Staff has eleven days off in the nine weeks of working at camp. Many of the days off are accumulated and taken between our two three week sessions. Every counselor has one hour off during work days. They can take a break after 10pm with other counselors on a rotating basis.
Staff Qualities
Our camp is on a lake and we have many water sports activities. We teach campers swimming, sailing, canoeing, and fishing, as well as "land" sports activities which includes archery. It is important having counselors who are strong swimmers and are skilled in one of the above activities. We train counselors, during a two week period, how to be certified lifeguards, professional, and to teach students social skills. Counselors need to have a positive attitude, be adaptable, work well with others, and use the training they learn before camp.
