Camp Overview
HKC Pearl River is not like any other camp you know because we're not actually a camp. Our beautiful 100-acre campgrounds is home to four day camps - each with its own camp program, its own staff, and its own campers.
Our staff is made up of two teams – aquatics and maintenance and aquatics. The Aquatics team teaches swim and lifeguards for the 1500 campers who attend camp each day and will work at one of our three pools complexes (a total of 8 pools). The maintenance team keeps the facilities, including the bathrooms, clean, safe, and sanitary.
Located in the suburbs of New York City (just 30 minutes from NYC by car), our renovated grounds are a mix of open fields and wood areas, with sports courts, pools, and pavilions mixed between them.

Staff Time Off
As a day camp, everyone works Monday – Friday until 4/4:30 and are on rotation for end-of-the-day garbage pick-up and working camp late nights, and possibly weekend special events. Otherwise, participants are off weekday evenings/nights and weekends when camp is in session.
Staff Qualities
We're hiring Camp America participants for our Aquatics team and Maintenance team. No matter which team you are on we are seeking people who want to give 100% to the job because they understand that at the end of the day it's about the campers' experience.
Our Aquatics staff spends the camp day alternating between swim instruction and lifeguarding. We look for people who are comfortable interacting with children, who are great communicators, who are patient, who can focus despite distractions, and who are reliable and flexible.
Strong swimmers are a must but no lifeguard experience or certification is needed. During your first week at camp you will take the America Red Cross Lifeguard certification course run by us and undergo training in teaching our swim instruction curriculum and lifeguarding at HKC.
We rely on our maintenance team to maintain the grounds and facilities. Camp America participants will mainly be assigned to janitorial work. We look for people who take pride in a job well done, who can listen to and follow directions, who are reliable, flexible and aren’t squeamish.
