Camp Overview

HKC Staten Island has it all! We are a rustic, peaceful 75 acre campground with fields, woods, and trails, located in New York City with easy access to Manhattan and Brooklyn.

We're also not like any other camp you know because we're not actually a camp. Our grounds are home to three day camps - each with its own camp program, its own staff, and its own campers (anywhere from 200 - 550 campers daily).

The HKC Staten Island staff has a team that manages the grounds and buildings (including the 3 pools) and an Aquatics team that lifeguards and teaches swim for 1200 campers who attend camp each day.

Staff Time Off

Staff are expected to work every Monday - Friday from 8:30am - 4:00pm. They get a 30 minute lunch break, with other short breaks throughout the day. Periodically, Camp America staff will be asked to work weekday evenings. You will also be required to lifeguard for special events for 6 - 8 weekend days.

Staff Qualities

We're hiring Camp America participants to be a part of our Aquatics team; a team that spends the camp day alternating between lifeguarding and teaching swim. We look for people who are comfortable interacting with children, who are great communicators, who have patience, who can focus despite distractions, who know how to be a part of a team and who want to give 100% to the job because at the end of the day it's about the campers' experience.

Strong swimmers are a must but no lifeguard certification is needed. During your first week at camp, you will take the America Red Cross Lifeguard certification course and be trained in teaching our swim instruction curriculum.
