Camp Overview
At L.G. Cook 4-H Camp in Stokes State Forest, we’ve been running summer camps for over 60 years, and we offer the same classic 1951 camp experience we always have.
This means that we are a tech free camp that focuses on positive social interaction. L.G. Cook is a place where campers can become the best version of themselves by trying new things, building self-confidence, gaining independence and making friendships that last a lifetime.
Our staff is our heart here, and our counselors work tirelessly to ensure that Camp is a home away from a home for all our campers. L.G. Cook is operated by Rutgers University, and offers six-day sleep away sessions July-August open to all youth ages 8-16. Learn more from out blog, http://gobacktothemountains.blogspot.com/

Staff Time Off
We run four six-day sessions of during the month of July, running Mon-Saturday morning. Staff have a day and a half off during the weekends, from 2pm Saturday until Monday morning. During the session, staff will have around one hour off during the day, as well as time-off in the later evening. In August, we run our BIG Session – 18 days of summer camp! Before the Big Session, staff will receive a “big” weekend – with time off running from Saturday-Tuesday. (Ideal for a trip into New York City.) During the Big Session, in addition to their daily time off, staff will also get three periods of 1/3 of a day off.
Staff Qualities
We look for energetic, positive, out going role models. Camper interaction is the most important aspect of L.G. Cook, so it is crucial that our staff loves working with kids. We expect our staff to put the needs of the campers first, and to be ready to work long hours creating a wonderful, open, supportive, tech free environment for our kids. We aim for a stay at our camp to be transformative for campers and staff alike. Many of our international staff find the summer here so rewarding they continue to return for multiple future summers.
