Camp Overview
Quinipet Camp & Retreat Center, owned and operated by the New York Conference of the Methodist Church since 1947, is a progressive Christian camp located on the beautiful shores of Shelter Island, New York. Grounded in the values of Courage, Love, Faith, Humility, and Honesty, Quinipet provides a welcoming and inclusive environment for campers, staff, and visitors of all backgrounds.
Our camp offers both day and overnight programs, with week-long sessions throughout the summer. Day camp is available for children ages 5-12, while overnight camp serves campers ages 8-16. Campers can choose between our Traditional Program, which features a wide range of activities in the arts, sports, and outdoor education, or our specialized Sailing Program. Both options provide a safe, supportive environment where campers can grow, try new things, and create lasting memories.
We’re seeking strong and compassionate staff members who are ready to make an extraordinary impact on the lives of children. Most staff live in cabins with campers and lead program activities such as sports, arts, or waterfront activities, including sailing. Staff enjoy weekly time off to explore the stunning beachfront location, as well as the charming towns of Long Island's North and South Forks.
Quinipet provides excellent support for our staff, including laundry facilities, a staff retreat with Wi-Fi and a fridge, and van shuttles around the island. Accredited by the American Camp Association, Quinipet is a place where both campers and staff can reflect, grow, and thrive while being part of a dynamic and inspiring community.

Staff Time Off
We understand camp work is intense, so we ensure generous breaks. Daily two consecutive hours off, weekly night off, and a day off between sessions provide valuable rest. No campers stay between sessions, allowing staff a true reset.
Staff Qualities
At Quinipet we look for a diverse staff who can bring in their unique qualities and add to our community! Its is important to know we are a Methodist camp and our main emphasis is inclusivity and spirituality. We have had staff and campers of all religions, sexualities, and cultures join us and feel welcomed. We really want our staff to feel comfortable leading an activity in one of our activity areas Outdoor/STEM, Arts, Sports, or Sailing so you can grow and develop your teaching skills. Our staff training will give the opportunity to feel more comfortable in facilitating activities so please come with a skill you want to share!
