Is Camp America for Me?
Making sure that Camp America is right for you is just as important as making sure that you meet our key requirements too. Make sure do your research throughout our website into the different types of camps, different camp jobs and how the Camp America programme works before you sign up. This will ensure you avoid any surprises and can experience an unforgettable summer working and travelling the USA.
What Do I Need?
Before you get started on your Camp America application, take a minute to check that you fit our requirements. If you're not sure about any of them or have any questions, then please get in touch!
Safety first!
Meet the minimum age
To meet visa and insurance requirements, you must be 18 years or older before 15th June of the summer you want to take part in.
Find the right departure date
You need to be able to depart for camp at some point between 1st May and 20th June. The earlier you are available from, the better!
Do I have to be a student?
If you're applying for a Counselor role you don't need to be a student. Campower applicants must be in full-time education as it requires a different visa.
Safety first!
Pass your Police Check
You must complete and pass the relevant Police Check for the country in which you’re applying from. As you're working with children, this is essential.
Complete your medical form
All participants must submit a Camp America medical form which must be completed by your doctor.
Get your J-1 visa
You will need a J-1 visa from your nearest US Embassy. We'll provide all the documentation and support to help you here.

What if I Don't Meet the Requirements?
We judge all applications on an individual basis, and we’ll always be honest with you about your application chances. It’s vital, however, that you can meet the requirements to obtain a valid J-1 visa as this is essential to take part in the programme. If you’re worried you don’t meet requirements, please contact us – what might seem like an issue may not be a problem at all, but you won’t know until you ask.
