Summer by the lake?
What’s It Like in the Groundskeeping Team?
If there’s one place you can expect to spend your summer, it’s outside. Maintenance and Groundskeeping help keep the camp in tip-top shape all summer, from cutting the grass and topping up paintwork to mending equipment or fixing up fences. With so much happening on camp, your radio will be buzzing with new jobs so there’s never a dull moment, but don’t worry, you’ll still get plenty of time to bask in the sunshine.

Skills & Experience
-
Groundskeeping
You don’t necessarily need past groundskeeping experience to work on camp grounds – most Camp Directors are looking for someone with practicality and the right personality to match their camp. However, if you do have a green thumb or some experience in landscaping or outdoor maintenance then this will look great on your Campower application.

Maintenance
As with groundskeeping, you don’t necessarily need past maintenance experience to work on camp grounds – most Camp Directors are looking for someone with practicality and the right personality to match their camp. However, if you are pretty handy or have some experience in maintenance then this will look great on your Campower application.
-
Fun & Friendly Attitude
You might be working in the camp grounds, but you’re still an integral part of the summer camp experience as a whole. This means Camp Directors will expect you to help make sure their campers enjoy the best summer ever.
By approaching every day and every activity with enthusiasm and fun, you’ll make sure your campers feel the same way too. Face challenges with a smile and the campers will also be much more willing to step out of their own comfort zones and embrace new experiences, especially if they’re first-time campers who might already be feeling a bit unsure or nervous.
-
Communication
As a part of the Maintenance and Groundskeeping team, you’re always going to be talking to someone. You might be answering your radio, working with your team to tackle a new challenge, or just waving hi at the campers as you go about your day.
-
Full Time Student
In order to apply for a Campower role, you must be a student currently in full-time education.

Real Experiences
Don't just take our word for it - this is just a snapshot of the amazing summers our participants have had at summer camp and why they keep coming back for more.
This year will be my 7th year! I keep going back to camp because I can impact lives, grow culturally, and make life-long friends from all over the world.
Days off at camp were a peaceful break to get to know small town America, bond further with staff, try new food and experience local life.
Making s’mores after campers learnt how to build a campfire during Outdoor Living Skills is always a highlight, along with making the campers laugh by performing funny songs and skits as they join in.
I would definitely recommend going to a Job Fair as it gives you the opportunity to check out all the camps available and increases your chances of getting placed at a camp you really want to go to.
You are captivated by the surroundings and unplugged from the outside world. It’s an adventure inside a bubble that you never want to pop, full of lasting friendships and unforgettable memories.
Camp is my home away from home, and a family I never knew I was missing. Friendships, memories, laughter, spontaneous fun, traditions, and so much more make camp an unforgettable experience.

Can I Get Involved with the Rest of Camp?
We wouldn’t expect you to keep camp looking so good and then not be able to experience it! When you’re not on duty you’ll be encouraged to get involved with all the camp activities on offer and hang out with the counselors and campers. You might take a dip in the lake or take out a kayak in the sunshine! Although your accommodation is likely separate to the campers, you’ll still be close by so get involved with cabin games and activities too.
