What’s a Summer Camp Office Job Like?
The camp office keeps a summer camp running. Working in one is a very interesting and very busy job where no day is the same. As the source of all camp knowledge, you’ll be keeping parents updated, helping plan the activity programme and organising the huge amount of mail that gets delivered to camp. The bonus, however, is that you also get to deliver the mail to the campers and see their face light up at a package from home!

Skills & Experience
-
Admin / Office Experience
Any prior work experience you have within an office will come in useful for applying for these jobs at camp. Whether you’ve had reception roles, admin roles or any other kind of office job that requires great organisation and communication, all will stand you in good stead for a summer camp office job.
-
Organisation
You’ll be very involved in helping senior staff and Camp Directors keep the camp and programme running smoothly. So your organisation skills are essential! The camp office is always busy with enquiries so you’ll need to be able to juggle and keep track of lots of different tasks to make sure the campers have the best summer ever.
-
Communication
Working in camp office means you are basically a key source of camp knowledge. It will be your job to make sure that information gets out to the rest of camp and beyond! You can expect to speak to parents calling to check in on their kids as well as other staff members across camp, and the campers too.
-
Fun & Friendly Attitude
You might be working in the office, but you’re still an integral part of the summer camp experience as a whole. This means Camp Directors will expect you to help make sure their campers enjoy the best summer ever.
By approaching every day and every activity with enthusiasm and fun, you’ll make sure your campers feel the same way too. Face challenges with a smile and the campers will also be much more willing to step out of their own comfort zones and embrace new experiences, especially if they’re first-time campers who might already be feeling a bit unsure or nervous.
-
Flexibility
Camp life and kids are unpredictable, so having some flexibility is going to help you out a lot in daily camp life. Joining this together with some problem-solving skills, you’ll be able to navigate plenty of tricky situations.
From changes to the schedule, handling bad weather or dealing with unexpected events, being flexible will help you handle a changing camp environment in a way that means your campers likely remain oblivious to the fact that this wasn’t the plan all along. The more enthusiastic you are about new plans, the more on board your campers will be too!
-
Full Time Student
In order to apply for a Campower role, you must be a student currently in full-time education.

Real Experiences
Don't just take our word for it - this is just a snapshot of the amazing summers our participants have had at summer camp and why they keep coming back for more.
Days off at camp were a peaceful break to get to know small town America, bond further with staff, try new food and experience local life.
Camp America gave me an understanding of responsibility that I hadn’t experienced before. By the time I came home, I’d gained valuable leadership skills to take into future careers.
The job fairs are a great way to display your personality and show off your people skills, which camp directors can’t see on paper. Being confident is just as valuable as having a specific skillset!
Travelling after camp has enabled me to visit amazing places, such as two islands of Hawaii, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles! I wouldn't have had the opportunity if it wasn't for Camp America.
Being able to go back and see my friends again and try different activities and new roles every year just keeps it exciting. Every year brings new fun and new challenges.
From Brand Manager to Interviewer and now full time at CA HQ I just can’t resist spreading the word and telling as many people as possible about how amazing summer camp is.

I Won’t Just Be Stuck in an Office, Right?
Although the summer camp office is always going to be busy, you’ll still get time off throughout the day which you can use to get involved in regular camp activities if you want to. Most office staff work on rotation, so your time off will also rotate throughout mornings, afternoons, and evenings. Your accommodation is most likely separate from the campers, but you’ll still be close by. It’s always worth getting to know the campers and joining in when you can!
